History

As twins, Michael and Gabriel were considered to be ‘monstrous’ and ‘satanic’ children. While Gabriel is confused and ignorant to the public spite, Michael is satisfied with being perceived as inhuman. Gabriel had always believed he knew his twin brother better than anyone, even claiming he had predicted darkness in Michael from the moment of their birth. He viewed Michael as his architect but also his greatest rival as he was intimidated, yet he deemed him as God’s only creation worthy of ascending to heaven ever since they developed their sacred abilities that altered the public’s treatment toward them.

When Michael shared his insights from a memory of Maria la Fata, Gabriel was determined to write a tale to test the town’s religion, until the circumstance of nearly exposing their family’s past misdeeds turned their relationship sour. While Michael pursued the goal of altering the town’s religious system, Gabriel was left to handle his family’s trepidation as his parents pleaded that he stop his brother from becoming high priest before they succumbed to their illnesses. Gabriel witnessed the return of Maria la Fata through a dream, where Dies Irae occurred and corrupted the world.

Despite his parents’ pleads, Gabriel revealed his discovery during Michael’s coronation to prove his firm belief that his ascension would result in Maria’s arrival, until he was reprimanded and imprisoned, accused of devilry and shaming his twin in the fit of jealousy. He deemed his imprisonment as Michael’s arrogant betrayal, and eventually murdered his brother after a heated argument, albeit on accident. Raphael stumbled upon the scene when Gabriel claimed Michael’s name to escape his crime, eventually overdosing on the Atropa Angelo drugs until he lost his sense of identity.

Humanity

Idolised and beloved by the town, Michael was immersed by people’s respect which roused him to exceed his reputation further to inspire others into following his footsteps. He was described to be an eccentric yet philosophic saint, and was compared to the archangel Michael for his selfless and heroic deeds. He was also very observant, particularly towards Mary, who became the subject of his curiosity, and soon—his obsession, after finding their doubts on morality as something in common between them that he considered her as his equal. Despite being a priest, he followed his own principles rather the ones in the bible.

Beneath this charming performance had long hid the excessive pride and self-righteousness in the delusion that he held more knowledge about the world than anyone. After regaining his memories, Gabriel proved that he endured discomfort rather than guilt for years after he murdered his twin brother, harboring no shame in his sins. He found stealing his twin’s identity as an opportunity to prove the truth of his past declaration that nearly led to his execution. Even at the face of judgement, he remained unwilling to repent and went as far as to deceive even himself to erase traces of his sins.
